Eye
Examinations
We offer a comprehensive, unhurried eye examination using
the latest advances in technology to both NHS and private
patients.
This usually takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
Every eye examination includes an assessment of ocular and
general health. The newly equipped consulting room includes
digitally generated test charts, visual field analysers and
imaging systems.
We are accredited to participate in the South
East London Cataract Direct Referral Scheme and the Greenwich
& Bexley Diabetic Screening Scheme.
The standard eye examination is funded by the
NHS for those in the following groups:
- Children under 16
- Full-time students aged 16, 17, or 18
- Everyone aged 60 and over
- Those claiming Income Support, Income Based
Job Seekers Allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit.
- Those named on an NHS Tax Credit exemption
certificate
- People diagnosed with Diabetes or Glaucoma
- Considered to be at risk of Glaucoma (as
advised by an Ophthalmologist)
- Aged 40 or over and the parent, brother,
sister, son or daughter of a person diagnosed with Glaucoma
- Registered blind or partially sighted
- Wearers of ‘complex’ lenses
as defined by the NHS
- On a low income and named on a valid HC2
(Full Help) Certificate
- A HC3 certificate may entitle the holder
to a reduction in the cost of a private sight test.
Some of the above groups
will also receive help towards the cost of spectacles. Evidence
of entitlement should be shown where possible.
Children's Eye care
As you know, regular eye examinations are important for people
of all ages but especially children during the formative years,
when so much of their development is based on their ability
to see properly. Children with visual difficulties often under-perform
in the classroom and the signs of poor vision can so easily
go undetected without regular eye examinations. We pride ourselves
on offering a thorough eye examination for everyone from the
age of 6 months upwards.
Digital Retinal Photography
(Not available on home visits)
Digital Retinal Photography is a quick and painless procedure
that enhances the way eye health is checked. Some of the benefits
are listed below:
- An accurate permanent record can be saved
- allowing even the smallest changes to noted and monitored
at subsequent eye examinations
- The Retina is the only place in the entire
body, where the appearance of the blood vessels can be viewed
directly. Unusual blood vessel size or appearance can indicate
raised blood pressure, high cholesterol, or show signs of
circulatory disorders.
- More accurate information can be forwarded
to an eye specialist if a referral is required
- It allows you, the patient, a better understanding
of what the optometrist does and sees when looking into
your eye
- It provides peace of mind that the eyes
are healthy
Digital Retinal photography is available at
a supplementary charge to private and NHS patients
Coloured overlay assessments
A coloured overlay assessment may be beneficial to adults
and children with reading difficulties and visual discomfort.
